SketchTalk: Lanna in Line and Motion

SketchTalk: Lanna in Line and Motion was a unique cross-disciplinary gathering hosted by C asean at C asean Lanna, bringing together sketchers, astronomy enthusiasts, and cultural explorers to discover unexpected connections between seemingly distant fields.

The morning session featured Ms. Orapin Riyaprao and Dr. Cherdsak Saelee, experts in archaeoastronomy, who explored the legacy of sky-watching in Lanna. — revealing how ancient astronomical practices have long been intertwined with local wisdom, belief, and daily life.

Joining them was Mr. Chol Vichaidit, a passionate stargazer and sketcher, who shared how sketching enhances one’s focus, sharpens observation, and deepens understanding of celestial objects. The session was skillfully moderated by Mr. Wathit Thummachoe, who bridged perspectives across disciplines and guided participants in connecting scientific and cultural narratives.

In the afternoon workshop, Mr. Chol led participants through hands-on sketching techniques, transforming astronomical observation into expressive visual storytelling. From star plots to celestial motifs, the workshop offered a meaningful way to translate observation into storytelling, bringing the cosmos down to earth and onto the page.

More than just a lecture or sketching class, SketchTalk was a celebration of interdisciplinary learning—sparking curiosity, encouraging collaboration, and showing how, when we connect the dots, the line comes into motion—new perspectives emerge, and creativity shines through.
