C asean Consonant fosters Thai-Chinese Understanding through Music

C asean Consonant strengthened Thai-Chinese ties through its participation in the 12th China-ASEAN Music Festival held in Nanning, China on October 21, 2023, with an invitation from Guangxi Arts University, the festival organizer. The performance showcased a captivating collection of songs from 10 ASEAN countries, complemented by newly composed Chinese pieces. The music festival marked the 10th anniversary of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, drawing an audience of around 1,200 attendees and media representatives. The concert symbolizes the harmonious spirit of the ASEAN region, despite its diverse cultural backgrounds, through the universal language of music.

C asean Consonant also conducted a workshop on ASEAN traditional musical instruments for students at Guangxi Arts University before the concert day. The educational session added an enriching dimension to the cultural exchange.

On the same day as the concert, the Sirivadhanabhakdi Foundation, Thai Beverage Public Company Limited, and C asean jointly contributed 31 traditional Thai musical instruments representing the four regions of Thailand to the Guangxi Museum of Ethnic Music, Guangxi Arts University. The event was followed by a handover ceremony of new photo collections of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Thai books at the Princess Sirindhorn Thai Information Center at Guangxi Minzu University. The book collections are those authored by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, as well as books commemorating the princess and translated Chinese chronicles.

All of the activities highlight C asean’s commitment to creating a cultural exchange, enhancing educational resources, and strengthening a better understanding between the two countries.
